ICT Barriers in South African education
There are many ICT barriers in South African education,especially in rural areas because students lack ICT background.Most of the schools in rural areas don't have computers at all or they are not enough,sometimes learners are not allowed to use the computers whereas they are meant to be used by them.
Other ICT barriers
- Technological under-development
- Low literacy levels
- Poverty
- Lack of effective training
- Limited resources
- lack of knowledge and skills
- Crowded classrooms
In my school there were computers ,but they were not enough.Only students who were studying CAT were allowed to use those computers,as for some of us we were not even allowed to enter the computer lab.Most of the students who are in rural areas are not under-performing because they are lazy ,but it's because they have nowhere to search information when they are given researches,so i propose that the government introduce training programmes that will ensure that all the teachers are technologically advanced,so that they will be able to teach children basic computer skills.
Bad news. I can imagine that part of gazing other learners using computers, it must be annoying. But anyway, just because now you do have a chance of using it in order to enhance learning in varoius ways, use it wisely.
ReplyDeleteIt's no surprise that our country is facing a huge problem when coming to technical skills but what they did to you guys it's really bad because you could have had technical knowledge about how to operate with the ICT tools.
ReplyDeletei agree with you colleagues,it's our duty as foundation phase teachers to ensure that we at least teach our learners the basic skills of using computers.
ReplyDeleteyes it a very good idea that one if a government could do that i think the world will be a better place because teachers with knowledge are exactly what we need in south africa
